6 BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS. DO NOT FEAR OR BE IN DREAD OF THEM, FOR IT IS THE LORD YOUR GOD WHO GOES WITH YOU. HE WILL NOT LEAVE YOU OR FORSAKE YOU.”
7 THEN MOSES SUMMONED JOSHUA AND SAID TO HIM IN THE SIGHT OF ALL ISRAEL, “BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS, FOR YOU SHALL GO WITH THIS PEOPLE INTO THE LAND THAT THE LORD HAS SWORN TO THEIR FATHERS TO GIVE THEM, AND YOU SHALL PUT THEM IN POSSESSION OF IT. 8 IT IS THE LORD WHO GOES BEFORE YOU. HE WILL BE WITH YOU; HE WILL NOT LEAVE YOU OR FORSAKE YOU. DO NOT FEAR OR BE DISMAYED.”
5 NO MAN SHALL BE ABLE TO STAND BEFORE YOU ALL THE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE. JUST AS I WAS WITH MOSES, SO I WILL BE WITH YOU. I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU OR FORSAKE YOU. 6 BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS, FOR YOU SHALL CAUSE THIS PEOPLE TO INHERIT THE LAND THAT I SWORE TO THEIR FATHERS TO GIVE THEM.
While Israel has a heart for God and insists on serving him and following after him wholeheartedly, God is ALWAYS with them and is leading them further on his conquest.
20 “THE LORD WILL SEND ON YOU CURSES, CONFUSION, AND FRUSTRATION IN ALL THAT YOU UNDERTAKE TO DO, UNTIL YOU ARE DESTROYED AND PERISH QUICKLY ON ACCOUNT OF THE EVIL OF YOUR DEEDS, BECAUSE YOU HAVE FORSAKEN ME.
THEREFORE WE MUST PAY MUCH CLOSER ATTENTION TO WHAT WE HAVE HEARD, LEST WE DRIFT AWAY FROM IT. 2 FOR SINCE THE MESSAGE DECLARED BY ANGELS PROVED TO BE RELIABLE, AND EVERY TRANSGRESSION OR DISOBEDIENCE RECEIVED A JUST RETRIBUTION, 3 HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE IF WE NEGLECT SUCH A GREAT SALVATION?
We forsake God, not the other way around.
When we trust, love, and obey him he will never, ever abandon us.
PAUL SAYS WE WERE “DEAD IN OUR TRESPASSES AND SINS” AND THAT OUR VERY NATURE SAYS WE’RE “CHILDREN OF WRATH”.
(EPH. 2:1A, 3B)
Our sin separates us from God. We are naturally separated from God when we choose to go after other gods (which is anything but Yahweh).
WE FORSAKE GOD!
This can be depressing but we must remind ourselves many times every day that HE WILL NOT FORSAKE US!
4 EVEN AS HE CHOSE US IN HIM BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, THAT WE SHOULD BE HOLY AND BLAMELESS BEFORE HIM. IN LOVE 5 HE PREDESTINED US FOR ADOPTION AS SONS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST
HIS LOVE AND GRACE ALWAYS TRUMPS OUR SIN.
God is so intent on not forsaking us that the first time we see “forsake” used in the New Testament is when Jesus says it…
45 NOW FROM THE SIXTH HOUR THERE WAS DARKNESS OVER ALL THE LAND UNTIL THE NINTH HOUR. 46 AND ABOUT THE NINTH HOUR JESUS CRIED OUT WITH A LOUD VOICE, SAYING, “ELI, ELI, LEMA SABACHTHANI?” THAT IS, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”
The first time we see “forsake” used is when our sin separated Jesus from God when he took our shame, our guilt, our punishment on himself.
BE OF GOOD CHEER CHRISTIAN! JESUS WAS FORSAKEN SO YOU WOULDN’T BE!
